Halloween Applique

Wallhanging or Quilt

This wallhanging is fun to make. I used PaintShopPro to create the Halloween graphics, then turned them into patterns for this wallhanging. You can either print our graphics directly to fabric for this project, or you can use the patterns provided on this page to applique the scenes. I used fusible web to adhere the applique pieces to the quilt block, then used fabric paints to outline the pieces. For information on applique using fusible web, go to: Applique Instructions.

SUPPLIES


FABRIC

Purchase extra fabric if you plan to prewash and shrink your fabric. Amounts are assuming 45" wide fabric.

Sky: 1/4 yard (you need three 6.5" x 6.5" squares)

Hills: Two pieces of 7" x 4" dark green fabric

Tree and witch hair: 7" x 7" piece of medium brown fabric

House and broom straw: 6" x 6" tan fabric (this allows a bit extra)

Pumpkin & window interiors, plus 4 corner squares: Orange scraps (3" x 4" would be enough) plus enough for four 2.5" x 2.5" squares (total is 1/8 yard).

Witch hat and dress, window outlines, porch, grave marker, plus 4 corner squares, binding and backing: 1/2 yard black fabric

Witch face and hand: scraps of medium green (2" x 2" is more than enough)

Moon and Pumpkin glow: 7" x 7" piece of yellow fabric

Roof, porch roof, door and broom handle: 6" x 4" dark brown

Witch cape: 4" x 3" piece of black sheer fabric

Ghosts: 2" x 2" white

Block border pieces (I show in Halloween print): 10 strips of fabric, each measuring 6.5" x 2.5" (1/4 yard)

Batting: 11" x 28" (the piece is actually 26.5" x 10.5" - this allows a bit extra)

Fabric paints: I used black, glitter yellow, glitter silver, gold and glitter gold. Choose colors you like.

Fusible web (for attaching applique pieces)- approximately 1 yard (this should allow plenty of extra)
