GARAGE DOOR WINDOW
Replace Glass Window |
lessons holiday patterns craft patterns |
Project By Kevin Sherrod Also see: More Home Improvement Projects Our garage window developed a crack. We needed to replace it, but did not want to use actual glass again. We decided to use acrylic. We were able to save the decorative piece that covered the glass. It was not actual wood; it was a plastic that was not damaged. |
WINDOW REPLACEMENT The first step was to purchase a sheet of extra strength clear acrylic. This type of acrylic is heavy duty, and made for use as garage door window, storm door window, signage, and any place where durability is needed. Choose size and thickness according to your needs. We found the size we needed in our local home improvement store. |
Take the layers of the window apart, and remove old glass. My garage window had screws on the inside frame. I removed the screws and the inside frame. I was then able to remove the old, broken window and the outer decorative piece. |
Once the inside frame was unscrewed and removed, the rest of the piece came out as one unit. The photo shows the unit with the glass removed. |
This is a photo of the window frame with the outer decorative piece, glass, and inner frame removed. The decorative piece will be placed back into this frame, followed by the acrylic sheet. Then, the inside frame will be screwed back into place, holding all layers in together. Check all pieces carefully. Clean and repair as necessary. |
Clean the outer decorative piece. Remove the protective covering from the acrylic sheet. Lay the new acrylic sheet into the window frame. |
Problem fixed! With just the cost of an acrylic sheet, we had taken care of our broken garage door window. Easy, inexpensive repair. |
