Fish Block 1Fish Block One is made up of a square within a square. The interior square contains the fish. The fish itself is made up of one large striped triangle, and two small triangles. Two small triangles and two larger triangles make up the water behind the fish. Four large triangles create the outer square. Measures 8.5" x 8.5" When all blocks are completed, go to Overall Layout so you will know where to place each block. |
NOTE ABOUT PRINTING: Be sure your printer is set to print at 100%. If "Shrink to fit" or "Fit to page" etc. is selected, YOUR PATTERN PIECES WILL NOT PRINT TO THE CORRECT SIZE. Every pattern page lists one or more dimensions. CHECK YOUR PRINTED PATTERN FOR ACCURACY OF SIZE. |

Instructionsuse 1/4 " seam allowances; press between stepsIMPORTANT: Remember to square down all blocks and segments of blocks. NOTE: The instructions for the fish shown to the right are the same as for the fish in this wallhanging. The only difference is that the one in these instructions is made with purple fabric (rather than the gold shown above) and the nose piece is larger. The instructions remain the same. |
1. Identify pattern pieces |
2. Stitch piece 1 to piece 2 (2 sets) |
3. Stitch piece 3 to piece 1-2 (2 sets) |
4. Add piece 4 (2 sets) (NOTE: Or you can finish the inner fish square, then attach the four #4 pieces last.) |
5. Stitch your two finished squares together, right sides together, along the edge of pieces #3. Figure 5 shows the squares ready to be sewn - the stitch line is highlighted in yellow. |
6. To create your A-B-C triangle, you can choose one of two methods. You can cut out pieces A, B and C and stitch them together OR you can do the following: Create striped fabric and then use the large pattern piece labeled "A-B-C" to cut out the large A-B-C triangle from the striped fabric. To create your fabric, cut the B strip to a size of 2.25" x 10". Cut strips A and C to be 10" long by 2" wide. |
You can then place the large "A-B-C" pattern piece anywhere you wish over the striped fabric. |
7. Stitch one piece 4 to each of the two sides of your A-B-C piece. 8. Stitch the two halves of your fish block together. |
